Carrolltown Back Pain Relief via Chiropractic Treatment Plan of Manipulation and Exercise

February 28, 2023

A new clinical trial is starting that will evaluate the effectiveness of a 6-week specific rehab program blending education and exercises on walking capacity in those who have lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation knows these Carrolltown spinal pain conditions quite well…and offers a relieving treatment plan of Cox® Technic spinal manipulation and mobilization with exercise!

EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS TESTED

The aim of this preposed study is to analyze whether the addition of an exercise program to an educational program might enhance walking capacity in those who have lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Being a randomized controlled clinical trial, 60 participants will be randomly divided into either the control group or the intervention group. The intervention group will get an educational program and an exercise program, while the control group will only receive the educational program. The primary outcome measure is walking capacity, while the secondary outcome measures are pain intensity, disability level, and quality of life. (1) Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation knows our Carrolltown spinal stenosis patients are quite concerned about these outcomes!

LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS WITH NEUROGENIC CLAUDICATION

Lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication is a condition that produces narrowing of the spinal canal in the low back area, resulting in pressure on the nerves. This can result in pain, numbness, and weakness in the legs and buttocks. In severe cases, it can also cause difficulty walking. The condition is most common in people over the age of 50. These are just the people in Carrolltown who need to keep (or at least start) exercising!

THE EXERCISES

The particular exercises that will be used in this trial are made to improve walking capacity by stretching and strengthening the muscles around the spine. The hope is that by performing these exercises regularly, patients will experience less pain and disability and have a better quality of life.

THE CONTROL GROUP

The control group in this trial will only get an educational program about their condition and how to manage it. While education is important, it is not typically enough on its own to provide significant relief from symptoms. That is why adding exercise is so important. It involves the back pain patient in his or her relief!
