Carrolltown Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh

December 27, 2022

Frankincense and myrrh, two respected gifts sourced from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make remarkable healing partners! Both have been tapped throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, especially Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties deal with issues with many different health conditions, many that Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation knows bother our Carrolltown chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to understand better!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine values frankincense and myrrh for their wide-ranging positive health effects. Used together, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects stopped growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are components of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of cancers with the newest research revealing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By monitoring pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that support tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was decreased, and pathological structure was lessened with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled urotheilial wound healing to help symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh comination is a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation appreciates combinations of treatments to help our Carrolltown chiropractic patients looking for healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a critical complication of diabetes and cause of kidney disease, by regulating pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described as being able to stimulate blood and disperse blood stasis. It was put to the test and found to lessen neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to averting TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Gormish Chiropractic & Rehabilitation knows all this detail may not be your “thing” of wanting to know, but we want to share the whole story if only to get to the point that frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
