Carrolltown OSTEOARTHRITIS SUFFERERS AND THEIR PAIN
Carrolltown knee osteoarthritis is common. There are numerous Carrolltown knee pain sufferers. They are not alone! 240 million people around the world endure osteoarthritis. That affects about 10% of men and 18% of women. (1) Any Carrolltown knee osteoarthritis sufferer knows about the knee pain, the morning stiffness, and the creaky joint motion that lowers the enjoyment of daily life. (1) It’s just not very fun. Now a Mediterranean diet could be some fun though!
WHAT TO EAT ON A MEDITERRANEAN DIET
The Mediterranean diet includes eating lots of fruits and vegetable, legumes and nuts, cereals and seeds, seafood and fish. The Mediterranean diet permits moderate consumption of dairy, poultry and eggs in addition to red wine and olive oil as the chief source of dietary lipids. (1) Yum! Consuming a Mediterranean diet can be quite delicious as well as exciting for a recent Mediterranean diet enthusiast.
BENEFITS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET
Knee osteoarthritis involves inflammation as well as pain. A review of three research reports highlights that biomarkers of inflammation and cartilage degradation due to osteoarthritis decreased in the Mediterranean diet group. (1) Specifically, the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1α decreased in the Mediterranean diet group. (2) Knee osteoarthritis patients who stuck to a Mediterranean diet show a lessened risk of deteriorating knee pain at four years follow up. For those who didn’t experience knee osteoarthritis at the beginning of the 4 years study and followed a Mediterranean diet, a 9% reduced risk of getting knee osteoarthritis was reported. (3) Overall, a higher faithfulness to a Mediterranean diet is associated with better quality of life and decreased pain, disability and depressive symptoms. (4)
